State Security Program (SSP)

The State Security Program (SSP), also known as the State Security Hospital in statues, serves up to 120 adult males and females committed through the District Court system pursuant to the Kansas Code of Criminal Procedure for various criminal evaluations, competency restoration, treatment in lieu of confinement, or lack of mental state, in addition to a small number of females transferred from the Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC). The program serves individuals who are charged with felony crimes and can be extremely dangerous. SSP also encompasses the Security Behavior Unit (SBU) which serves male patients administrative transferred from OSH or PSP and cannot be managed in a less restrictive environment, come from jail on a hold order with a high-level crime, and/or are a threat of harm toward patients or staff. These individuals are stabilized on the SBU unit and then returned back to the prior setting for a lesser restrictive environed. SSP’s Leadership Team encompasses professionals such as the Administrative Program Director, Clinical Program Director, Director of Psychology, Assistant Director of Nursing, Director of Social Services, Activity Therapist Director, and Unit Leaders.
